This was my third Princess Cruise after sailing on the Grand Princess and the Golden Princess. I can only say that at first I was a bit perplexed by the constant "TV" that Movie Under the Stars seemed to project. But by the night I nestled into a reclining chair and pulled the blanket offered for a night of "War of the Worlds" I thoroughly enjoyed myself and this atmosphere! During the day, children's programming runs, appropriately, as it overlooks the kids pools, but I too enjoyed movies and the occasional concert even though I hadn't gotten on a ship to watch TV! For a large ship, I always found quiet places to enjoy to myself as well as joining activities when I felt like being sociable! Food is always available at the buffet day or night, and I do prefer the Anytime dining option at their formal dining rooms. I much prefer this to assigned seating of other cruise lines. Sometimes my husband and I prefer to dine alone, and also like table for two options. There weren't any on some cruise ships. However, one can always get room service for an even more private experience. I will enjoy cruising again with Princess in Jan, on the Emerald. I like the coziness of smaller ships in that staff seem to remember your name, impressively enough. Our steward did greet us by name also. I love the entertainment and shows. Burt the piano man was a must see and he even earned a larger venue as his fan base increased during the cruise. I love the free drink events and appreciate this as I don't often drink but am more likely to buy a drink once I enjoy a free one! The food was good, however sometimes it's appearance was better than flavor. They may try to keep it a bit blander for a reason, but I enjoy spicy and flavorful foods. I must say I prefer Royal Caribbean food - at least in the dining rooms. Somehow, the water on ships seems to contribute to hurting my tummy by the end of a cruise and I think I may start packing my own drinking water to see if this helps. I also found that others pack sodas to carry on, and also on Princess one is allowed to have a bottle of wine per legal aged passenger. Although there is a "corking fee" of apprx. 10 dollars. Bring your own opener and keep it in your cabin! I would like to see a group for kids from 18 - 20, as Royal also provides this. Our son didn't accompany us on Royal because his previous Princess Cruise afforded no group for him to meet and make friends. I think this is a huge oversight, as this age group cannot drink legally and may have no interest in attending the adult bars and lounges even though they are allowed to go in. He would have had a much better time if there was a group for that age. He stayed most of this cruise in the cabin unfortunately, and was seen staring in the mirror often seeing if his chin whiskers had grown any... |
Three months ago, my sister-in-law talked us into taking our first domestic large cruise on the Caribbean Princess to the Caribbean. We honestly didn't think we would be satisfied after having done the Transatlantic Crossing on the Queen Mary 2 which was so luxurious and wonderful.
We came home from the cruise so pleasantly surprised and happy with the food and service that we decided to book another cruise with Princess for three months later (Oct 2009) - same ship to Canada/New England.
Once again, Princess doesn't cease to please. The food and service were outstanding. Embarkation and Disembarkation an absolute breeze. Lovely ports of call. Wonderful excursions. The crew (international) can't be beat. |
