MSC Cruises is an Italian cruise operator based in Naples, Italy. The company has a long maritime history and became known as MSC Cruises in the mid-1990s. MSC Cruises has a fleet of eleven ships in service worldwide.

Better known to European customers, MSC Cruises is starting to make a name for itself in the North American cruise market with several ships spending the winter months sailing to the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, FL.

MSC Opera entered service in 2004. The ship is 824 feet in length, has eight passenger decks and an impressive atrium. With a capacity over 1700, the ship has roughly 2.3 passengers per crew member. MSC Opera has elegant Italian decor throughout the ship.

MSC Opera offers passengers a diverse menu of shore excursions through its website, which enables passengers to search by Port. Excursions are segmented by level of difficulty: Easy, Moderate and Difficult. MSC's website provides information on shore excursions, but it need to be improved especially for Caribbean cruises.

MSC Opera has almost 800 cabins onboard. You can choose from an Inside, Ocean View, Balcony or Suite. When selecting a cabin, make sure you know which public areas are near, above and below your cabin. Everyone's tastes are different, but it's best not to be surprised when you get onboard.

  • Suites: 250 sq. ft. with balcony
  • Balcony: 140 sq. ft. with balcony
  • Ocean View: 140 sq. ft. with a picture window or porthole
  • Inside: 140 sq. ft.

MSC Opera offers a wide variety of dining options onboard. From casual to elegant, we have been told that the cuisine on MSC Cruises is good. There are two seatings for dinner in the main dining rooms, while breakfast and lunch are open seating.

  • La Vele: buffet dining
  • L'Approdo: main dining

MSC Opera's main entertainment venue is the Teatro dell Opera. Typically, there are two seatings for the theatrical, musical or comedic productions each evening. Teatro dell Opera, which is well styled also hosts special theme parties and other events.

MSC Opera's Monte Carlo Casino is open while the ship is "At Sea." You will find popular table games, including Black Jack, Craps, Poker and Roulette. You will also find lots of Slot Machines and Video Poker. Just a reminder, you must be 21 years of age to enter the casino.

Typically, there will be slot tournaments while you are onboard.

MSC Opera features a gym located at the forward end of the Tosca Deck. You can exercise on elliptical trainers, treadmills and stationary bikes. There are also weight training machines and free-weights available. They also offer a number of classes.

There is a certified trainer on duty if you need help or want a personalized fitness program. You will find men's & women's sauna and stream rooms where you can relax after your workout.
