"EPIC- NOT SO EPIC"

My wife was injured on this cruise (Epic) due to the negligent staff who are suppose to inspect the ship and keep the passengers safe.

While walking through the doors to the jogging track, my wife reached around to the outside of the door. She reached around for the handle, but instead of a handle, there was a pertruding metal object where the handle attaches to. It cut my wife's finger. Although the injury was not severe, it did need treatment to prevent possible infection. It was an open wound.

When the incident first happened, there was nobody in sight. We finally asked one of the young ladies who worked at Tradewinds (from Slovakia) to take a look at the door. As we were walking there, a security officer passed by and came along with us. He reported the need for a door handle repair, but did not write any information down. It wasn't until I insisted that he take down our names, that he finally started to take down some information.

We were told to go to the medical center for treatment. Nobody answered the door. We were taken into another couples cabin and they made a call to the medical center to expect us. Once we were in the medical center the receptionist took a statement from my wife. The doctor or nurse then took my wife into a treatment room. The entire time, they were trying to down play the incident, stating that my wife closed the door on her finger. They then stated that it probably was a result of her being dizzy from being sea sick. That is when I demanded to speak to the head security officer. He was consistent with the others, in down playing the incident and never once apologizing for the staff's negligence. I told him that I was not happy with the way this was handled from the very first security officer who accidentally came across this incident.

I reported the incident to customer service and they offered us a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine. I later found out, that EVERYONE on the cruise received these complimentary items. It is now three months later and I'm still waiting for a letter of apology and some attempt to make amends for this accident, caused by the staff of the Epic. Their negligence caused this accident. The head of security? (Dave) disagreed that our trip wasn't ruined by this accident. I'm sure anyone who has taken several cruises or cruises for the first time (like us) doesn't expect their cruise to be interrupted in a negative way by an accident that was caused by the staff of the Epic. I've made it clear that I will not take legal action. However, I will share this story through the use of the internet.
