Disney Cruise LineDisney Cruise Line was founded in 1995 by its parent The Walt Disney Company. The fleet consists of the Disney Dream, Disney Magic, Disney Wonder and Disney Fantasy. As the name suggests, Disney Cruise Line is geared towards parents with children. Disney Cruise Line has earned a reputation for quality and much like its theme parks; they have perfected the art of customer service. Though there are less expensive cruise options for families, you will have difficulty finding a better choice than Disney Cruise Line.

Disney Magic Cabins & StateroomsDisney Magic staterooms are designed for families. We found there to be enough closet space, hangers and storage for everyone's clothes & toiletries. There is a Cooling Box for drinks and baby formula. The stateroom also has a privacy curtain so you can watch TV without disturbing each other. The flat screen TV has a great lineup of Disney/Pixar Movies that run 24 hours.

All staterooms on Disney Magic have 2 Wave Phones that passengers can use to send text messages and make calls to friends and family on board. The Wave Phones ensured that we didn't spend our cruise walking around the ship looking for each other.

When selecting a Stateroom on Disney Magic, take time to look at the Deck Plans and make sure you know which public areas are near, above and below your accommodation. Also pay special attention to features such as Verandahs. There are three types of Verandahs on Disney Magic: a solid white wall, clear plexiglass and a Navigator's Verandah, which is large porthole above a solid white wall. Here is some additional information on stateroom size:

  • Suites: 614 - 1029 sq. ft. including Verandah
  • Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah: 304 sq. ft. including Verandah
  • Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah: 268 sq. ft. including Verandah
  • Oceanview Staterooms: 214 sq. ft. with a picture window
  • Inside Staterooms: 184 - 214 sq. ft.

Disney Magic Shampoo & Bath ProductsDisney Magic Staterooms feature Sealy Posturepedic® Premium Plush Euro-top Mattresses, 100% Egyptian Cotton Linens and Premium Bath Towels. Our Stateroom Steward replaced towels twice daily and kept the bathrooms spotless. Disney Magic's Split Bathrooms are great for families. Disney Magic has H2O Plus Spa, Bath & Shower Products, including Sea Marine Revitalizing Shampoo, Marine Collagen Conditioner and Hydrating Body Butter.

There was also a hair dryer in the bathroom and a clothesline in the shower to dry bathing suits. We packed light knowing there are self-service Guest Laundry Rooms on Disney Magic. Wash & dry cycles are reasonable, $2 each and you don't need change because you pay with your Disney Key to the World Card. We suggest going early in the morning or later in the evening as Guest Laundry Rooms can get crowded.

Disney Magic RestaurantsDisney Magic features Rotational Dining, which allows families to experience three uniquely themed restaurants that offer great food while keeping everyone entertained during meal time. You will have the same dinner servers each evening, making for a seamless experience. The servers on Disney Magic are exceptional, they will know your kids' tastes on Day 1 of the cruise and ensure everyone has a pleasant dining experience. Menus at all three restaurants offer a wide variety of choices, though a few dishes lacked flavor.

Disney Magic Restaurants:

  • Animator's Palate - Dine surrounded by sketches of your favorite Disney Characters. The Dinner Show at Animator's Palate is a fun evening for the whole family
  • Lumiere's - French-inspired cuisine with classic touches and "Beauty & the Beast" theme
  • Parrot Key - Caribbean-themed restaurant
  • Palo - Northern Italian cuisine just for grown-ups. There is an additional charge of $20 per person to dine at Palo.

Disney Magic Bars & LoungesDisney Magic has several bars & lounges with live entertainment. Most of the bars are located at the forward end of Deck 3 in an area called Beat Street. While the bars are fun, they are in need of some updating. Disney Magic does not have a signature bar at the front of the ship with panoramic views of the ocean like you'll find on other cruise ships. The outdoor pool bars are relaxing and enjoyable.

  • Cove Cafe - Gourmet coffee and cocktails. Relaxing area for passenger 18 years of age & older.
  • Diversions: Sports Bar
  • Promenade Lounge - Live music and cocktails before dinner. During the daytime, the Promenade Lounge has family activities.
  • Rockin' Bar D - Roadhouse Bar with music, dancing and karaoke
  • Sessions - Piano Bar

Disney Magic Walt Disney Theatre Disney Magic's main entertainment venue for live shows is the three-story Walt Disney Theatre located on Deck 4. There are two seatings for the productions each evening. The Walt Disney Theatre can accommodate 1000 passengers. The entertainment on Disney Magic is fantastic, including Let the Magic Begin on Day 1, Disney Dreams, Twice Charmed, Villains Tonight and Remember the Magic.

The Buena Vista Theatre on Deck 5 shows first-run Disney/Pixar Movies throughout the cruise. We were impressed with the variety of movies, including many in 3-D, as well as the show times from morning until late at night. We're often asked, is a Disney Cruise worth the money? The answer is yes. When you consider all of the entertainment and Disney Character appearances that are included with your cruise fare, a Disney Cruise is exceptional value for your money.

For little kids ages 3 months - 3 years, Flounder's Reef Nursery on Deck 5 offers day care services that cost $6 per hour for the fist child and $5 per hour for the second child. Kids ages 3 - 10 years of age will enjoy games and activities at Disney's Oceaneer Club and Disney's Oceaneer Lab. Disney Magic has a Gym & Fitness Center located at the forward end of Deck 9. You walk through the Vista Spa & Salon to get to the gym, which looks out the front of the ship. Disney Magic's Gym has good equipment, including treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes, weight training machines and free weights. The gym is smaller than those on newer cruise ships, so you might want to avoid early morning workouts. The change rooms and showers located within the Vista Spa & Salon are very nice. Disney Magic's gym is reserved for passengers 18 & over. Gym hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 8: 00 p.m.
